2010 Grant Opportunities

1) Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is currently seeking applications for its Access to Learning Award (ATLA). The Award is part of the Foundation’s Global Libraries initiative and honors institutions like public libraries and similar organizations that provide communities, especially the poor and the disadvantaged in developing countries with free access to computers and the internet.

 

Applications have to be submitted online in English. The deadline to submit applications is 30 September 2010. For more information, visit this link.

 

2) As part of our work in Malaysia the APC WNSP and Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (PKKS – EMPOWER) are calling for proposals for projects that seek to address the intersection between violence against women and girls, and/or to stop violence against women (VAW) and girls through the strategic use of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

3) The Round 6 of the Grand Challenges Explorations of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is now open to accept applications, providing grants of up to $100,000.

The initiative focuses on areas where creative, unorthodox thinking is most urgently needed. For this round, applicants are asked to focus their proposals on these five topic areas:

  • Design New Approaches to Cure HIV Infection;
  • Create the Next Generation of Sanitation Technologies;
  • Create Low-Cost Cell Phone-Based Applications for Priority Global Health Conditions;
  • Create New Technologies for the Health of Mothers and Newborns;
  • The Poliovirus Endgame: Create Ways to Accelerate, Sustain and Monitor Eradication.

4) EIDHR - Support to Human Rights

This “Support to Human Rights Defenders” call for proposals has been launched for all countries around to world “to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights and democracy through the support to human rights defenders (HRDs)” as part of the EIDHAR Strategy Paper 2007-2010 (under Objective 3)
Deadline: 3 September 2010

Geographical zone: All countries

 

5 ) IHEU-HIVOS Grant Opportunity for Humanist Organizations

The project should achieve specified goals in one or more of the following areas

  • promoting Humanism,
  • promoting secularism,
  • promoting human rights,
  • promoting scientific method, or
  • building competence and capacity of the organization itself.


Deadline: 1 September 2010 (nonIHEU member; pre-qualified application 1 August 2010)

Geographical zone: Developing countries

 

6) GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT FACILITY – SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM

Total : USD 3.2mil (Jul 2010 - Jun2014)

Planning grant; USD 2,000 (3 months)

Full grant: USD 50,000 (18-24 months)

Deadline: November 2010 (TBC)

Grantees criteria:

  • Registered NGO (local)
  • Carries out environmental project

o Focal areas: biodiversity, climate change, land degradation
